This is my Story
I am Benvolio Montague. I am the cousin of Romeo and the nephew of Montague. But, I'm not just another Montague. I may be protrayed as a peace builder or peace maker, but that doesn't really define who I am. I just want to live life with the people I love and bring happiness to the world. I should probably mention that my family (also known as the Montagues) despise the Capulets a lot. Just the sight of one fills anger within them, but to me, peace is the right answer. I live in Verona where all the Montagues and Capulets reside. I'm pretty much the one soaking up all the events that occur, so I might as well get started.
As I said before, the Capulets are great enemies of the Montagues. Everything little action that we did annoyed the Capulets off. I vividly remember when my cousin, Abram, was walking by and the Capulets had the nerve to bite their tongue at him. This was obviously not acceptable as Abram had did nothing to him. I happened to walk by at that instant and knew a fight was going to start. I immediately told to stop it because this would lead to more conflict between the two families. All I wanted was peace. Tybalt comes over and claims that he hates peace. I didn't reply back because he got on my nerves. It wasn't the way he said it, but how he reacted to my comment. I couldn't believe that he would dare go against peace. He knew the hatred between the two families, yet he decided to make the situation worse.
Romeo, too, had a bit of problems himself too. Every time Mercutio and I saw him, he was always depressed or not in the mood to talk. Eventually, we found out why and it was because the girl whom he liked, Rosaline, didn't love him back. For hours and hours, I tried so hard to open his eyes and ears for the other beautiful girls that don't have a true love yet. Romeo simply remained depressed and gloomy, until he met Juliet at this party. It was as if the sky cleared and the heavens showed up. It was just that clear to him that Juliet was his only and true love. After meeting Juliet, Romeo kept disappearing day after day, but Mercutio and I were always certain that it was somehow related to Juliet. I was delighted that finally, Romeo found someone other than Rosaline, who always made him upset, to fall in love with. I couldn't hold my excitement after they planned to get married secretly. I remained puzzled though. It would be a hard relationship to keep, nonetheless be married without your parents knowing. This was indeed true love and that's all that matters.
When Romeo killed Tybalt, I knew it was over for him. There was no way he would get out of this mess without a punishment given to him. I didn't know he was that angry and seeked revenge from Tybalt. In my opinion, I knew I could've done more to stop Romeo from even lifting his sword up. I called myself a peacemaker, yet I was nowhere to be found in the time where it counted most. It cost many deaths, including many close ones. I went home grieving and reevaluating my life as the hours passed and the seconds ticked on the clock. The next morning, I heard that Juliet was found dead on her wedding day. I was in disbelief because she was a healthy, young lady. It couldn't have been herself, it had to be someone else. Hopefully Romeo doesn't hear of this. No one should receive the blame for her death, but I constantly worried. I looked at the window in my room and a townsman knocked on my door. I didn't expect much until he described the day's events consisting of Romeo's drinking, Juliet's stabbing, and Paris' fighting. My heart dropped as I heard the news. This was definitely something that I was not expecting. But, I wondered why Romeo had came back to Verona. It had to be Juliet. There happened to be a confusion where Romeo wasn't unaware that Juliet was dead for a while, according to the townsman. I can't believe that they all died within minutes. The Capulets and Montagues finally realize the many struggles and hatred that they had to undergo in order to reach this point of peace. I knew this could've been resolved earlier. I am Benvolio Montague and that's my story of Romeo and Juliet.
