When we (Romeo, Mercutio, and I) march toward the party of the Montagues, I was expecting to do a quick dance and leave the party as soon as possible. It wasn’t until Romeo kept repeating that he did not want to dance, but simply hold the torch while the rest of us danced. I didn’t know the exact reason why he didn’t want to dance, because it wasn’t as if he couldn’t. I pondered why he couldn't just let go of his love life and live reality. He acted as if he was a little kid wanting ice cream. Maybe he just wanted to see Rosaline or actually take my advice on keeping a lookout for other girls. He kept making excuses and constantly made complaints to us. Mercutio too, was attempting to convince Romeo otherwise. I even recall him stating, “I mean, sir, in delay. We waste our lights in cain, like lights by day.” (Act 1 Scene 4 Line 46) I could sense that Mercutio was slightly peeved as Romeo was acting sensitive and remained solely concerned with his life. I heard bits of the conversation, including his love life and dreams that he had. I really didn’t know how the conversation came to be and I grew impatient as the minutes passed by. If only Romeo would agree to dance, then we would be off by now! I quickly interrupted them, and told them we had to be heading there right now or we would be late.
